It's available in the website but the time frame given is too short to decide whether we can make our kid in to that school or some where else. After reading the blogs i've decided not for this school. The management has to concentrate more on the education rather than collecting money from the parents.
But a small suggetion for this blog members, most of them are discssuing only about the problem related to money / transportation rather than academic activities.

Hi,

Im vidya, my elder son is studying at PV, he is in UKG, and my younger son is in PSBB - KK nagar, i did not get admission for my elder son in PSBB, becoz they say PV is their sister concern and would not encourage kids to be transferred.

Also fee hike in PV is becoz, last month there was a circular from PSBB regarding the fee hike and you wont belive it was the same amount 4800 per year. So Ponvidyarashram has also increased....anywayz becoz of the parents efforts, the fee has been reduced. It is very good news ..

All Kudo's for the people who have been behind in framing this Parents Association. Great Initiative & Keep Going!!!

Also thanks for all the parents who have turned up for today's meeting. Good to see many parents having them registered with Parents association voluntarily. Let's have the count moved up further as part of our next immediate plan.

I request every parent to make others aware about the association formation. This could be achieved during the respective class parents teacher meeting being conducted by the school management.

Unknown said...

Hi,
This is th first time I am visting this site.
Can some one please tell me if the parent meeting has taken place?

ram.badran said...

I think it would be better if somebody (probably Navaa) can post in this the contact details of the of Parents association, so that others can contact the association.

Yesterday I went to PV, Valasaravakkam to get application for my second kid for Pre-KG admission. But they refused to give application form as I am residing in Ramapuram area. My residence is just 2 kilometers away from the school. Moreover my first kid is stuyding III std. in the same school. Application issued for those who resides in KK Nagar, Valasaravakkam. I am not able to understand the criteria fixed by the school management.

Hi,
As many are aware of, for Pre-kg admission 2010-2011, PV, valsaravakkam has set up a parents/kids counselling session coming staturday 7/11/2009.

What are the nature of questions they put across to parents/ kids( just 2 years old)

Appreciate responses from parents whose kids got admitted to pre-kg last year

Hi Anand,

To be honest with you, when I admitted my son for LKG, no question were asked to me as a parent. My son was taken to a classroom and later after 15~30 Min he returned and we were asked to see the results in the notice board.

What I understand from my son.
1. They interact with the child to know their name, parent name, what they like most etc etc
2. I understand something is written / drawn on the board which will be questioned. Those would be like colours, shapes, domestic animals, vegetables and fruits.

Also not sure of the exact eligibility criteria set for being shortlisted as I had seen lot of apprehension from the parents whose kids were not selected. All I guess is what matter is the performance of the child on that day.

JAY said...

Why the management is hurry in the admission process for 2010-2011. Most of the schools not yet given the app. form itself. Anand your kid is just 2 years old, i hope she can tell the name and few things. But from my openion if distance is not a problem think again for good schools.

For Parents Association, Pls contact Mr. Vijayaraghavan @ 92832 85145.

Also there are other members as well. We are in the process of printing the hand-outs, which would have contact details of the others key members. I am hoping to have this done in a week's time.

I have got application form for my daughter in PV, Kolapakkam for 2010-2011.for UKG. They have asked us to come on 7th Nov to appear in a written test. I want to know if any body has any experiance on this. What type of questions will be asked in the written test. Though I am very very surprised what is expected from a 4 yr old baby :(

Got pre-kg asmission for my kid.
Had 2 sessions of parent/kid interaction with Admission ppl.
First session: kid was asked about rhymes, color, to name objects pointing to book pictures, play with toys and ball.

Second session: parent was asked about how we engage the kids. The key is to teach kids by telling stories. And they made sure we dont let them watch TV while eating.

Then kids name was called (after 40 mins)and we were asked to pay 41570Rs for pre-kg admission.

Dear All,
I thought of putting in PV and I came across the blog and it took more than an Hour to read it completely. Today I went and they told the admission fee is 45000 and it has to paid immediately once we get admission. Other fees can be paid on April it seems. After reading the blog I am slightly upset about the school. But if you take any schools, there will be ups and down and it is fact. Let me think and thanks for all your comments.

RK said...

Hi,

Am really confused by reading all the comments. Am in verge of transfering my daughter to PV from a metric school.. So can anyone update the current (real) status of the school & its really worth of giving the Rs. 30K donation to them? Would be helpful if somebody can provide a honest feedback at the earliest.

Hi

This is one of the school that only looks for profit not for proper education. My child is studying now for pre-kg and would be joining LKG this year. I am not happy with the teaching style and standards. And even teachers are not trained properly. the School is making a huge amount through the education as a big business.
For this year for LKG education the fees is nearly 18000 and the time period mentioned as one week. At least they have to mention this 2 -3 weeks backs. And the management is saying its a small amount , still i dint understand on what basis they are saying its small amount?. May its a small amount for them.
Even i asked them for term fees strategy and is also mentioned in the book let what they have given. But the managanent says Kolappakam branch won't accept Terms fees , have to pay the anual fees. They said only one branch having the facility. So this is like a back scratching ourself. And if we are unable to pay within the period they are taking penalty. One of the ridiculous management.
Actually i want know one more thing , if want to get the TC after some time, will they pay back remaining amount or not.

Anyway i made a mistake , if some body want to admit their childrens, have to clarify everything or better to go for some other schools. This schools always needs money only for establishing new branches.

i was trying to admit my daughter in pon vidhyashram, but luckily i got great escape. their consentration is only on the money side not even on the education side, we thought that this school also like padma seshadri but we came to know later that the school is having tied up with padma seshadri for the brand and not even a single teacher is trained by padma seshadri, so how can v expect the same education?. this i mean it for velachery branch, but i dont have any idea about other branches. one thing which make me very upset is they are very particular about the fee but not about the other aspects. hope the best.

Hi,
My son has been studying in PV,Virugambakkam for the past 2 yrs since PreKG. The teachers are very friendly and their teaching methodology is really good. I especially liked the observation day wherein we can sit inside the classroom and observe how our kids are learning. One thing that can be improved a lot is event management. Any event be it project or culturals there is absolutely no volunteers and parents have to wait anxiously for their kids to come back safely through the crowd.I don't blame the teachers, they are also having a tough time managing all the kids. The system should be such that both some parents and teachers work as voulnteers and manage the show. During the last KG culturals there was almost a stampede because of anxious parents crowding near the back stage to get their kids back. Some kind of system should be put in place for everybody's safety.

Hi,
Does anybody know who actually governs this school above the Principal? I am shocked at some of the policies this school has. They are refusing to give my daughter a TC unless I pay the term fee for next year. I already paid donation twice in three years!
Management seems to be just money minded.
Appreciate help.
Thanks
Vinay

PV at Velachery is poor in administration and the staff members keep changing including the headmistress. This definitly impacts the continuity of quality education.

There is no enough response on the transport fee hike for the year 2010-2011. I agree the transport goes smooth but the parents wants to know the reason for such a huge hike.

The management should intervene and meet parents in regular intervals if they really want to sustain in providing the better education.

Is this correct ? does anyone have additional info on this ?

To all those who would like to know about the Pon Vidyashram Injambakkam:

Think twice before you admit your kids with hefty fees. Not worth the amount paid. There are no teachers for many subjects whole yearlong. Many of the books (really good ones) are never taught.

One more point :
The school managment lacks ethics.
we made an advance payment of fees revision last year which was later withdrawn. The office staff made false promises regarding refund . Even the principal's promise in this matter turned out to be false.

The most worst part is it lacks security. There is no compound wall to the school.

We too joined our kid to this school with lots of optimism and faith. everything sailed well till 2008. Many experienced teachers left the school . there is a yearly change of teachers every year.

Kids are chosen for school day , sports day functions and heftily charged for costumes ( double the amount in the market).

New teachers keep juggling with the subjects year long and then there is a new set of teachers the next year.

This english medium school has staff who cannot communicate in simple english.

We took the decision to save our child's future and changed his school.

There are more TCs issued in the school than admissions.

The school management is making a wonderful business out of this. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to join the Parents association for Pon vidyashram valasaravakkam . My daughter is studying in II Std . Still now i have not felt bad abt the school. Coaching and other activies are all good. Smart class in all the classes is really good. But they can focus on certain matters like
1. School Timings can be reduced.. Children become very tired by 3:45 PM. Most of the schools get over by 3:00 where in they start by 8:45 only.
2. They conduct observation class evry year where in the parents are allowed to see how the teachers teach. But this is been kept mostly be end of that academic year - in Feb or so.. It would be nice if they keep atleast Nov or Dec.

Can you please let me know on how to join the parents asscoiation.
Also there was a yahoo groups by name - PonVidyashram Chennai which i have requested to join..
if we can join then it would be busy to communicate

Whoever wants to admit their children in this school please think twice. My daughter is also studying in this school. But we are not happy. Teachers keep cahnging very frequently. Most of the time you can find tehy run the class with out Class teacher(s). They try to catch the parents and convince them to be the teachers - especially house wives. One of my north indian neighbors have been appointed as Hindi teacher and another one as computer teacher. they never had any previous teaching experience. Quality of teachers are very poor. Its the big business for this Ponnammal educational trust. They don't even bother to develop some trees around the school. In a nutshell "If you don't ahve any otehr option you can think of this school" otehrwise....its your kids' fate!

Dear All,

I admitted my daughter in Ponvidhyashram, Kolapakkam this year in pre kg. I am very much disappointed with the school. They are just cheating the public with the name of Mrs.YGP. Worst management. No trained teachers, not taking care of the children, the care takers are careless. Construction is going on the school without making safety arrangements. I dont know in what sense the people are supporting the school. Even the local small schools are far better than this school. Its just like a corporation school. I am very sorry to say this.

Dr Rammoorthy D said...

Hi All

Please take a note that on June 16 2010, the poor girl Nivedita Jayakumar wrote a high note about this Pon Vidhyashram school. (Perhaps that would be the only comment positive about this money minded hyped school in this blog).
She also said that she loves this school and recommended her parents to put her brother Adithya in this school.
But sadly "POOVARASI" the demon killed her brother in the cruel incident.
Worse than that incident our PV Valasi school did not even observe mourning for few minutes to the died boy Adithya

I heard that some people in the office room who are close to the management have rejected the proposals came from the teachers for mourning for the died boy Adithya by announcing a half day leave or a simple prayer in order to intact its “so called” name.

Such is the mentality of this money minded ruthless school which is worse than a cruel killing of the small boy.

Perhaps now Nivedita Jayakumar will realsie about this school and re write her experience.

It is better you get your kid admitted to any other school. This school is only commercial and mentioning they are part of PSBB; even there is no class teacher in Std I for the last 6 months. Even the School's toilets are so worst maintained and the children/ teachers themselves complaint and the management never bothers about. Most of the parents also thinking of changing the school.

Awakening said...

I dont think this is good school to join kids after paying hefty of fees.

Very first, I had paid fees ~43K on Oct-2010 for my kids LKG admission and they had given in white pages the acknowledgement, which is absurd and it seems they are making black money. While I asked for bills they said it is procedure for this school. Neither principal take time to note nor their wrost front office have time to make parents understand their business.

When I want to cancel the admission due to shifting of my job, there is no response atall. All my hard earned money ~43K seems to be lost. They are not even giving Mr.Ramachandran's [brother of late Mr.Damodaran]contact details also.

Can some body help me in putup to relevant authorities on this issue so that atleast their management will review. Under the name of Mrs.YGP thier business is flourishing like anything. I am not sure these things are acknowledged by Mrs.YGP.

The School management has decided not to give report card directly this time mentioning some reasons. The report card and also fees payable for the next year are proposed to be sent thro' courier. Understand from reliable sources that the main reason for the same is the proposal for huge increase in the fees and the management does not want to face the parents' ire and protest against the same.

Santhanam said...

Advice for school fee for the year 2011-12 received. There is a hike in fee for about 10.63%. For class 3,4,5 the fee payable is 21,860 (tution fee 11,500 + others (opt) 10,360). No breakup is available for others. If it is optional, what will happen if not paid?

sundar said...

It is totally cheating and misleading as if we are paying the additional amount Rs.10360 on our own. If at all, anyone raises issue at a later stage, they can very well defend that it was an optional which has been paid by the parents.

P.V.Krishna Kumar said...

Dear Parents,

As regards the optional part of fees for the year 2011-12, I think we should unitedly take a decision to not to pay this optional fees which has no justification, whatsoever. The Parents Association which is functioning should take note of this and should guide all the parents rightly. Because, some parents may opt to pay this part due to fear of their child/children subjected to harassment during the academic year. In case if it is paid, they should not feel guilty of having paid the same because some of the parents have not made the same, boldly. Parents who see this comment on the blog or elsewhere please react to gather support for this argument.

P.V.Krishna Kumar
Chennai.

Santhanam said...

A calculation for our reference:
If we take only tution fee per student average @ 11,500 pa, for 40 students the annual amount is Rs.4,60,000/-.
Let us consider expenses as below:
Teacher 20,000 pm x 12=2,40,000 pa
Other exp. 15,000 pm x 12 = 1,80,000 pa
Total exp. 4,20,000 pa
Excess of income over expenditure is Rs.50,000 pa. For 1000 students it is 5 crore. Imagine with optional fee as well. It will be crores and crores. We all have to join to express our objection against collection of extraordinary fee.

sundar said...

There is no parent association formed earlier. The parents came together last time when there was proposal of increasing the fees during the mid-academic year. The initiative taken for forming association by someone was also dropped at that time since there was no co-operation among parents. Atleast now all parents should come forward and voice their strong objections against the increase of fees.

vish said...

Dear All,

Whomsoever it may concern, I like to bring to your kind notice that PON VIDYASHRAM, Valasaravakkam has been charging a exorbitant school fee for even LKG class.

Tuition fees is # 10,000/-
Opt( no idea what is for) # 9750
Apart from this School dress ( 1400) + books fee ( yet to be announced ) # Total of 21,150 + Books fees + 1500/Per month for transportation.

This fee is annual fees has to be paid upfront and cannot be paid as term fees. ( They follow their own rules)

When I had compared with their own group of schools ( PSBB), I came to know that they collect term fee and total Annual fees for the class 8 is much lesser than that of Pon Vidyashram's LKG. ( Ridicules !!!!!)

I had admitted my son last year for Pre-KG with the admission fee around 42,000/-

Now I feel cheated and regret for admitting my son in PON VIDYASHRAM, Valasaravakkam. ( Just for the name sake that they had created as PSBB management school).

In terms of the quality of education, they admit more than 42+ student in a class and many times they run short of staff.

Especially in pre-Kg's, many parents complained that Aayas were handling class. ( @$%^&!!!! ) ...

Beware of Pon vidyashram !!!!

Parents wake up !!!! Or else this blood suckers will keep on sucking our hard earned money.

Please let me know if there is any parents welfare association for PON Vidyashram, valasaravakkam.
I like to be active part of it.

Hello all,

My son is studying in LKG. From this years onwards they are going to change the method of learning ie., x-seed method for LKG and UKG. Can anyone know whether this x-seed learning method is good r not?

Devi said...

Hi,

XSEED programme gives the children a very practical and experiential learning experience which is followed in PSBB.

It would give better results i believe.

Thanks,
Dev.

Hi,

I believe I need to get admission forms which i can ask someone in india to do that. But regarding interview, any idea when it would be? if it is in december, wonder my daughter will lose 5 months (dec - may) of academy. will they consider my case and allow her take up the interview later?

Hi,
Both my daughters are studying in this school. I like the teaching methods, extra curricular activities of this school. They teach yoga, dance, western music, indian music etc as part of school curriculam.
The disadvantage is see is lack of school transport. They have sally transport but the school sends SMS saying, they are not attached with sally transport. They should look at streamlining the transport system as it is very importatnt for safety of children. This year, the school diary is not yet given. i need the holiday list to plan for holidays. Any idea about that....

Hi,
I came to know that there is a parent association for pon vidyashram, valasaravakkam. i would like to join the same. please let me know the details.

There is a phone number for parent cell which was given by the school. but it is always switched off. pls let me know any alternate number.

ram.badran said...

@Savitha, Please let me know what is the number that you have been given by the school

Saranya said...

Savitha,

Even I'm worried on the transport front!! The management is having such a lethargic attitude towards this and we parents are worried on this. Regd school diary, even I 'm wondering as its mid of Aug now, and they havn't yet given that.

The sally transport is sometimes really frustrating. Only when huge crowd of parents decides to speak to the Principal this prob can be addressed, and our children would reap those benefits. If u r interested, v can jus gather a pool of parents regd the transport facility.

Pon Vidyashram Kolapakkam Branch,

Past one week the stagnated water in the vacant land has somehow entered
the well and this has been filled in the over head tank. Children started
getting some bad smell and they have been instructed from the teachers not
to use the water. When we went and said this the manager we were not able
to get any solution rather the manger simply replied that you give additional
water to wash or you parents should co-operate or within two days we will
try to solve this problem and we were not allowed to meet the principal in this regard.
Also there are lots of rats in the school premises and cup-boards.
I think you all will know that rat fever is very dangerous. Also in this area
dengue and malaria is spreading rapdily

Most of the schools have developed Brand name and running with that and i think if u get inside u will feel the same way how u feel with PonVidyashram!!
This school has framed its syllabus very well but some teachers are not good enough to handle it. SO its u'r luck if u get good teacher then u can say Oh Ponvidyashram is very Good, otherwise..........

nbs said...

Even am in same position, whether to change school or not! But after talking to few parents whose children are in some of the chennai's best school - they said that they have pride that their children is in that school, but not satisfied with the teachers academic coaching and ex-cur activities!
so why to change school? School name doesn't have to do with this - its your ward's Teacher ! and also ofcourse in the hands of Parents. If our child is Smart, school really doesn't matter that much.we also have to spend time and bring up them .

SENTHIL said...

Hi,

Both of my children r studying at Valasaravakkam from begining. one is at V & other at L.K.G. The syllabus, pattern, infrastructure & activities are all good. Only thing is, as someone above said, if your ward gets a good teacher, u r lucky. Some teachers are very good here, but some are not upto the mark. the parents have to definitely spend time with the kids asking daily what happened at school. at least the mothers have to maintain a network with other mothers & share the activities & portions.

when there was flooding few years back, i too thought of shifting to other school, but the initiative of the management was good. they took all possible repair/work to come out of the problem. After the Chairman's demise also, his wife & brother/nephew has taken over and are personally managing day to day affairs. After this year flooding also, they are doing traffic management/pick-up & drop in an orderly manner.

And one more thing myself & children like about this school is the spacious play ground. cricket & athletics is very good here. they also have chess, robotics, and many co-cur activities.

If the parents are ready to spend some time in coaching the kids, this place is definitely good for overall development of children. thanks..

I came to know that the school management is planned to increase the fees for about 10,000 pa. This is an increase of about 50% compared to the fees paid in last year. Parents from Pon Vidyashram Valasaravakkam have to join together to record our objection against the enormous increase in the fees for the academic year 2012-13.

Dear Parents,

Be aware of this school especially the branch in Valasarawalkam. My son studied there couple of few years ago. Last week, when we were discussing about kneel down in school in our times, suddenly my son got started weeping and I slowly consoled him. Once he came back to his normal, I got the shocking information that when he studied in L.K.G (2008-09), the substitute teacher (one old lady could not recollect her name) told my son and few fellow students to kneel down in the class room. After some period, when he was not able to continue she started hitting the kids on the hand. How barbaric she was? One day she will definitely pay the price from the Almighty for all these. I am being polite here.
Had I known this when he was studying there, I would have made a police complaint. Due to poor infrastructure and the quality of teaching we moved him into a better school which turned out to be excellent decision.
The reason I am posting this to the forum, the parents of the kids who study there and those who are interested to get admission in this school (!!!!!) must be aware this. God only knows how many kids are getting hurt mentally like my son now. Talk to your kids and find out whether these barbaric treatment still continues???

Regards,
Ram

I write these few lines for sharing my views with others on this site. On a casual visit to school, I find a remarkable change in the total system. Considerable improvement in academics is established which is very conspicuous among children. New academics chief is a devoted person who cares very much for the development of the school. In the recent annual day celebration, their total efficiency could be visualized. I wish them all the best in their endeavor.

In Valasaravakkam branch, all students have been compulsorily asked to open a Bank account with City Union Bank. What is the necessity? God only knows!! Even some parents mentioned that they will take their own for their kids.. the management is still insisting to open.

FYI . Monday (10/12/2012) is a half working day (only morning session) for the school.

On 28.5.13 communication received from Pon Vidyashram, Valasaravakkam school informing the changes in school time. There are two different school time from KG to 2nd STD and 3rd to 12th STD. I have two kids, one at 7th and another one at 1st STD. I had very tough time for the last three years for pickup from the school in two different timings. School announced timings for the academic year 2013-14 that 1st STD to 12th STD have common school time. I thought a big relief for me from two difference pickup time. Now again the same school timing because of two batches upto 2nd standard. At least school authorities have to consider one section for common timings to enable parents can pickup kids at a time for those have two kids studying in the school.

Sundar said...

I really hate the batch system they have introduced now..it really sucks..a 15 min of break is not at all sufficient for the small kids take a break and have some snacks..

Sundar said...

I hate the batch system they have introduced, it sucks..are they conducting school or what? is this a college to have day and evening college? 2 batches and only 15 min break time, where the kids do not find enough time to go for restrooms and back and finish thier snacks.. it shows the money minded mentality of the authorities.

My kids are studying in Pon Vidyashram Kolapakkam, I would like to propose some initiative which school need to implement in short period

This is not to criticize but take it as positive note and take appropriate actions.

1. Home work / assignments should be informed to parents by emailed / sms / through Yokibu.com
2. Few teachers are showing partiality between children, these need to addressed to class teachers from school management.
3. Few parents are doing some sort of favour to class teachers by the intention that their children will be treated good in class, this is absolutely not acceptable and against code of conduct of the school teachers and parents.
4. Teacher should think as mother to all children at class room, then only the care is taken to develop children.
5. Madha, Pitha, Guru & Theivam(God) all teachers are should think the responsibilities towards the children, that's why you (guru) is placed before god.
pls. realize your position and act upon.
6. School management should be taken care about the above points and make sure to enforce it for the betterment of school reputation as well as children well fare in education and behavior.

Last but not least the above points are only those teachers doing / showing partiality. I am sure that there are teachers are already doing well with their profession.

Hope that the Pon Vidyashram - kolapakkam school management will resolve it in near future.

Best regards

Uthirapathy

Hello... This school has become miserable in the last 2 years. Today there is the Vivekanda Ratham comming to school and children have been forced to sit in the school ground even without their water bottles and wait from 2.30 pm to God know whatever the time.

Further the every Saturday is now a working day for class beyond 6th. While I understand the children have free class every day between Mon - Fri why should they have school even on Saturday that too full day. Most of the companies work only 5 days so why do children need to work for 6 Days?? Children are unable to carry out any extra-ciricular due to the long school hours.

The school timing was initially at 8.30 now it starts at 7.45 am due to request from Traffic police.. this does not make sense children get time neither to have a proper breakfast nor lunch and they are our future!!!!

The school need to review the happenings very carefully if they want to survive as otherwise parents might be forced to move their children elsewhere. I feel the school is taking things for granted due to the high demand for the CBSC schools and this should be strongly taken up by the respective authorities. Yes I really appreciate the Teachers as they are very homely and supportive.

Venkat said...

Hello,

Is there any parent-teacher or parent forum in the school? I agree to the above parent on the change in school timings. This definitely is a big issue as children don't get enough time to eat or stay healthy. For children using the van facilities, they need to start by 7 am meaning they don't eat a healthy breakfast nor get the required sleep.
I still doubt if traffic alone is the reason for the change in school timings. Traffic is a never ending issue and is on the rise everyday. We need to look for any other possible alternates rather changing the timings every time and end up starting the school at 5 am. I don't want to see this school also turn into a commercial building.
